Children and newborns
The unit sees babies from the first day of life. Finding a hearing loss early is what protects language.
What people notice
- No newborn hearing screen yet.
- Speech is not joining two words by age two.
- Not walking by a year and a half.
- Repeated middle-ear infections, or hearing loss in the family.
Come in sooner if
- The baby does not startle to sound.
- Speech is going backwards.
- A child who was walking becomes unsteady.
How this clinic looks at it
- Newborn hearing screening.
- Otoacoustic emissions and auditory brainstem response.
- Play audiometry and sound-field testing.
- Tympanometry, and balance testing when walking is delayed.
What care can include
- Hearing aids and aided testing sized for children.
- Cochlear implant rehabilitation when that is the path.
- Shared care with speech therapy.
In his January 2026 interview with Al Sharq, Dr. Nafi said a child whose hearing loss is found and treated before six months can develop language alongside peers.
